There is no such thing as a cheap retractable screen because even the lowest-cost ones can seem expensive. Fenetex falls into the best-value category. We say this because our prices are about 10-15% more than the least expensive options and 10-15% less than the most expensive options. There are a lot of advantages to be gained by spending the extra 10-15% we charge over the budget screens but nothing to be gained by spending more. The best way to get pricing is to contact us so we can get you in touch with a qualified expert to assist you with your needs.
Fenetex typically ships your order to the installing dealer within four weeks of receipt of an order.
If we refer you to a dealer or if a dealer is a Fenetex Certified Installer, you can be assured that we have vetted them and know the quality of their work and that they have had training from Fenetex. A good installation is crucially important to your enjoyment of your retractable screens.
You can, but we wouldn’t recommend it unless you are skilled, have lots of tools, have some strong friends, and can receive shipments from a semi-truck.
Yes. Please see the full warranty for all the details, but here is a short version of what the lifetime warranty covers. Lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects on extruded and fabricated aluminum components, proprietary parts, and the welded seams on screens. 5-year UV stable fabric warranty; some fabrics are additionally protected by a manufactures warranty of up to 10 years. 5-year warranty on electronic components. 5-year paint finishes warranty unless you are within ½ mile of an ocean, then it is a 2-year warranty. Exclusions include things like damage caused by water, fire, wind events, misuse, neglect, and wear and tear from use. Items needing repair can be returned to Fenetex for repair at reasonable costs.
We built our first hurricane screens in 2007, and many of these screens are still being used today. We are unaware of any screen systems that are no longer serviceable due to age. Sure, some screens or components have had to be replaced or repaired over the years due to wear and tear from things like prolonged sun exposure, prolonged use as a windbreak, or having been through a very strong hurricane or simple neglect. These kinds of things aren’t manufacturing defects, so the warranty does not cover them, but if a screen is repairable, we make repairs and provide parts at reasonable costs.
No, Fenetex was the first company to develop adjustable screen tracks, our patent uses springs because this is the preferred method for creating even tension in a screen, and the costs are much lower. Magnets came later as others tried to create a way around our patent, but magnets don’t have the benefits of springs, like predictable tension levels, quiet operation, and lower cost.
No, Fenetex screens are nearly silent, even in very strong winds. We were one of the first companies to manufacture fabric hurricane shutters, and our early customers loved how quiet our shutters were so they started using them all the time for shade, insect, and wind control. Well, we didn’t forget that customers loved the quiet, but we saw a need to specialize in different types of screens. Today, everything in our line is still quiet, even in very windy conditions.
Yes. The fabric that we use is very strong, stronger than steel by weight actually. We use the same kind of advanced fibers that are used in bulletproof vests giving our hurricane screens the same level of strength as a high-quality aluminum roll shutter. There are four main benefits to a Fenetex Hurricane screen over metal shutters and other screens. 1. You can use them for a lot more than just hurricanes, 2. they are quiet, 3. You can see through them, 4. They aren’t damaged by small impact strikes since flying debris tends to bounce off like a trampoline.
Yes, everything we make has an FR rating which means that it won’t burn – it will char when exposed to an open flame, but it won’t burn out of control. This is an important safety consideration that should not be overlooked but, sadly, often is.
People often ask us what kind of wind speeds will our non-hurricane screens withstand. The best way for us to establish data on this that we can share with our customers is to test- so that’s what we do. We build a 14’x14’ screen and mount it to a steel frame on our manufacturing facility and we blow on it with an airplane propellor attached to a 600hp engine that can generate 150MPH winds. We run this test for several minutes to replicate what a strong gust of wind would do to the screens. If the screens withstand this without damage, we consider it having passed the test. Does this mean the screens would withstand 100MPH winds day in and day out without damage, no it does not. If you expose screens to high winds regularly, they will wear out faster and this wear and tear will not be covered by the warranty but we can make repairs at reasonable costs. We test to establish that the average size screen is very strong and will easily handle the day to day “normal” use conditions and be able to withstand the occasional strong gust of wind that might occur if the screens are used on a windy day. Please understand that winds over 75MPH are considered hurricane force winds- if you plan to use screens in these kinds of conditions, please buy our hurricane screens. Also note that screens of different sizes will have different results. You could expect that a 25’ wide screen would withstand less wind than a 6’ wide screen. We don’t have data on these other screen sizes since it would be impractical to test every configuration. It is best to use common sense and be practical when using the screens in windy environments such that if the screens appear to be overloaded or are being damaged, put them away or be prepared to have them repaired at your cost.
